The City Judge is the department head for the Butler City Court. The Court collects fines for traffic violations issued in DeKalb County by various law enforcement agencies. The Judge hears disputes to those violations and renders judgments.

The Clerk-Treasurer is the City's Chief Financial Officer. Oversees all departmental budgets and city investments, and also serves as the City's Human Resource Manager. The Clerk is responsible for maintenance of Butler Cemetery records, annual reports, audits, bills paid, budgets, public information and special projects.
Butler Common Council
The Common Council, also known as the City Council, is the elected legislative body of the City of Butler. The Council hears and passes ordinances that become law. The Council often initiates local improvement projects and is responsible for allocating funds through the budget approval process.
The Council meets the first and third Monday of each month, 7:00 PM, in the Council Chamber of the Butler City Hall, 215 South Broadway, Butler, IN 46721.
Butler is divided into four council districts. Each district is represented by one member. A Council-at-Large position covers the entire City of Butler. A map depicting the council districts follows:
